Most folks have been happy with Verbatim and unhappy with Memorex.

Ok. I did try Verbatim and it seems to be working fine. Much higher quality disc. Don't use Memorex or HP discs. Now the only problem is I lost the cover for the navigation disc slot.

Hi guys:
As you can see this my first post, I have been trying to backup my copy of AD for many weeks now and now I have 3 costars or something to hang on my tree. I have been using a sony DRU800A dvd/cd rw/dl to burn at 2.4 using memorex CD-R DL with no luck. Each
time I put the disk into the rb1 it will say can't read the disk and to remove it. I make what looks to be a good iso, all the files look the same as the master disk size wise and whatnot, and all the files are there. I think it's like I’ve read the memores disks. I think I will try some verbatim disks. What do you think dvd-r dl or dvd+r dl?

So I gave up and moved right along to the AE, well not having witch luck there either. Each time I go to the site and download the AE I come back and plug it in it starts to run for sometime, about 30.mb or 25% then quits and with a message that there is not enough disk space. Win I look at my drive it says that there is over 231.gb free space on the disk, I then clear the trash can clean up disk and defrag, and try it once again and no luck. When it talks about not enough space is it talking about temp space , file space or what? Have any of you ever found this to be true? maybe someone could help me with this.

thanks

Hi Guys...
Ok.. the site everyone has talked about.. is that a torrent? or something other..
I finally got the torrent to finish downloading.. After like 5 trys...

I ran a checksum against the iso file..  and compared it to the checksum that was downloaded in the torrent

Notice they match except that the case is somewhat different.. Does that mean I don't have a good download? or?  Please give me some insight.. I have been trying to get this torrent for about a week.. I am happy it did finish unless it is useless.

Also for the post that said he keeps running out of space... if you have more than one drive.. say a C: and a D:... if you tell it to save it on D.. it actually does save it on C: in app data until it is completely downloaded... Then it copies it to D:..

so if you have a similar scenario.. you need to probably change some settings.. I use bit torrent.. and in the preferences I can choose where the incomplete torrents are stored.. If you look.. I bet they are being stored on a drive without much space.

Hi All...

Well I got home and burned the Disc from the Torrent I mentioned above with the differences in checksum...

I used the Verbatim disk dl's as mentioned..

WORKED LIKE a CHARM..
My ram updated to 2.04.00 just fine..

then took that disk back in.. and applied the path as mentioned using Ultra ISO..etc..

New disc in the truck.. and voila... 2.04.01 and no in motion menu..

GREAT!!!!!

Thanks so much..

I believe in this project.. I am a pretty good VB guy.. not so much on assembly.. Sad but i am willing to learn...

If I can contribute ... Bland DVD dl's?  or some coding? or?

Please let me know..

John

Am I reading this right? There is a disc with a patch that I can load in my REC unit to rid it of the "in motion" pain? I am, at the moment running the AD disc, but waiting for the AE disc to arrive any day. This disc has to be loaded first, I take it. After which I can insert the original AE disc and “BAM” the person in the passenger seat can make changes while on the move.
Now all we need to do is get rid of the annoying “Loading” and “press enter” screens and we will go from a great nav unit to a fantastic one. OK now the big question is, where can a person get a hold of this disc. Please e-mail me with the diddi, anyone.

Thanks

Go to the first post in this thread for the instructions. Use them AFTER you apply the AE disk.

Best steps if you have a genuine AE disc that HAS NOT BEEN USED IN THE RADIO:

get a blank, single-sided DVD
copy the contents of the AE disc to the computer
follow the instructions and patch the files
burn just the small files, not the multi-gig ones, to a single-sided disc.
boot that disc in the radio and do the update
once it reboots, remove the disc and put the original back in place

The radio only updates the firmware when it sees a new version.  And the mapping data itself does not get patched.  You have to use a AE disc with AE software of course, you can't continue using an AD or older disc.  But if you put the new disc into the radio it'll update the firmware and then you'd have to use ANOTHER set of patches to deal with incrementing the version number.  Which isn't a big deal but just an extra step.

So if you've got a radio that's not yet been upgraded to AE and you get a genuine AE upgrade, do the patch first with a single-sided disc.  This to save you the cost and hassle of making a DL disc.

Rgr, that's a good way to do it if you understand the concept.
And if so, then set the Ver# on the patch to 2.04.00 as well so after patching it will still be a virgin.. Wink

I tried to run the patch on the AE disc as in the instructions but get the following error:

"Main file updating failed. operation canceled!
Main file data integrity (CRC) error."

Has anyone else ever gotten this error??

I have a NEC 3520 DVD (bought in 2004ish) running the latest firmware.  It says it will burn DVD +R9 DL.  I assume this is ok format?

Well I burned it with Imagine Burn and it installed beautifully and worked great on the test drive I took.  It is great that it now has search by phone number, city center, and such..Thanks for the effort....

FYI to anybody interested  - I used Verbatum DVD+R DL burned at 2.4X.  I went to Best Buy and bought a 20 pack cause they listed for for $14.99..but at the cash register they rang up $53.95...wahooo...I said they were listed as $14.99 and showed him on the shelf..he said he had to honor it....sweet....

My DVD burner is a NEC 3520A Firmware 3.07, WinXP SP2, took about 45min to burn and 45 min to verify...

OK so here goes.

I downloaded the torrent for AE just fine, and burned the disk and it seemed to create it just fine.  So i put the disk in this morning and the firmware update completed just fine and when the unit rebooted it said loading for the whole 2 hour drive i made.  So is there something with the format or the coding.  I sued an HP 16 DVD-RW unit and memorex DVD +R DL disks.
