OK so here goes.
I downloaded the torrent for AE just fine, and burned the disk and it seemed to create it just fine. So i put the disk in this morning and the firmware update completed just fine and when the unit rebooted it said loading for the whole 2 hour drive i made. So is there something with the format or the coding. I sued an HP 16 DVD-RW unit and memorex DVD +R DL disks.
Memorex has a bad rep here. Check the posts and you'll see a lot of failures using them. Try Verbatim.

I have a NEC 3520 DVD (bought in 2004ish) running the latest firmware. It says it will burn DVD +R9 DL. I assume this is ok format?
It would seem so...

I've been exciting about trying this since I read about it from the 300C Forum. I got a double layer DVD burner (HP) and TDK DL discs. I used my AE disc and pulled down the patch and followed the instructions. I tried using the ISO method and just copying files directly after using the patch...burned the disc using Nero. But on 2 attempts, I get 'CHECK THE DISC' when I insert it into the nav system in the car. I am not sure what I am missing...can anyone maybe help me out here. I only have 5 discs, and now down to 3. I can read all the data on the disc on the PC with no problems. So, I am now sure what I am missing? Thanks in advance for responding!

...I get 'CHECK THE DISC' when I insert it into the nav system in the car. I am not sure what I am missing...can anyone maybe help me out here. That sounds strange... The two things that come to mind are (1) maybe your Nav just doesn't like the TDK discs, or (2) something in the options you're setting in Nero aren't set right. #2 seems more likely from what you're describing. I haven't been able to burn a DL disc correctly directly from Nero without using something like UltraISO first to create an ISO file, then using Nero to burn that. For some reason Nero won't let me set the UDF structure properly if I just start with Nero. Other people have had success using freeware programs, so you could try reading through the thread to see what settings worked with those. ImgBurn ( www.imgburn.com) is freeware and an excellent burning program, but I've never used it for burning Nav discs so I'm not sure where the proper flag settings are. Refer back to the first post for those. (UDF, Windows/Unix, ISO9660)

I am a newbie at this so Please have pity. I have a brand new AE disk which I have NOT put into the Nav unit yet. I would like to make a single sided DVD with the patch and then put the full AE disk in. I have read the 1st post and have the patch but I would like a LIST of what file to put on the single sided disk. When you said to copy the AE files to the computer I hope you meant into Windows explorer, am I right? Then do the patch as outlined? Here is where I get confused after I patch the files how do I make a ISO File and burn it to a DVD? I have done movies and have used DVD Decrypter and ImgBurn but that was from disk to disk. Also must the BOOKTYPE be set to DVD-ROMto work? Maybe someone would sell me a already patched disk or tell me where to go and read about this. Thanks for any help

another newby here. I was wondering if someone could put together a torrent file that will burn to a 4.7 dvd+r that I can DL and then update my nav. My car is just a week old so I'm sure I have the AE version. I can''t burn a dual layer DVD so I was hoping to be able to use the single side approach. any help and I'm sure more than just me would be grateful. thanks

I then loaded it in my 6 day old 300C followed by the factory AE disk. It loaded on the 1st try and all is well. I'll check later today, but I don't think my PC will read DL disk. If you can email me the ISO file you used to patch your nav, I'll put it up as a torrent and seed it so I and others can patch our systems..

I'm a newbie @ this so bare with me. I downloaded the torrent file from the internet put it on a DL+ sony disc and loaded the AE disc without the motion hack and everything went well, but when I decided to go ahead with the motion I created another file with the corresponding files updated (hack files) and when I tried to run it it would run the AE part but It didnt disable the motion feature. What can I do to fix this ?

Okay, I have rendered my NAV unusable! The screen is blank and I get no response from it whatsoever. Here is what I did: 1. Made a patched disk version 4.2.01, updated the system to it and everything worked like a charm. 2. Then I got to cocky and made another version 4.2.02 where I have modified the text in the initial screen. The text in the nag screen that reads “IMPORTANT: Always obey traffic lows and pay attention to the road. Some features are limited…” It is located between 1:EDA0h and 1:EE50h in the MAIN.APN file. I took great care not to make my new message larger then the original one and that I used the Hex: 00 for return and Hex: 20 for spaces at the appropriate spots. I applied my new message to the MAIN.APN file in both folders (ZH2FF and ZH200) as well as incrementing the version in both locations. 3. The I inserted this new disk into my navigation. 4. First I got a “check the disk” error. But after reinserting the disk it started the install. 5. And that is where the problem started. After it finished install, it went right back to the beginning of the install and started the install again. It was stuck in this infinite loop. 6. So I tried to reinsert the 4.2.01 version in the nav. But all I got was the “check the disk” error. 7. So I turned off the key! Does anyone know if there is a way to reset the nav to get it working again? Thanx.

Does anyone know if there is a way to reset the nav to get it working again? Thanx. Okay, I got it working again. Here is how, in case anyone runs into the same problem. I noticed that all the functions of the nav unit were working, I just didn’t see anything on the screen as it was blank. But the radio, cd, satellite radio… all were producing sound trough the speakers. So I went ahead and assumed that the only thing not working is the display (effected by me turning off the ignition key in the middle of the looping setup). With this in mind: 1. I went ahead and burned a new copy of the patched DVD and rolled it up to version 04.04.03 (one digit higher then the one that didn’t install successfully). 2. I put the disk in, waited for at least 10 seconds and then pressed Enter. Knowing from the previous installs that this is what you have to do in order to start the install. In my case I didn’t see the “Press Enter to Start Install” prompt as my display wasn’t working. 3. After I pressed enter a few seconds later the progress bar appeared and the new install went trough successfully! My plan is to continue messing with it a little bit more to see if me changing the nag message had anything to do with my unsuccessful setup or if it was something no related.

Just loaded the patched version in my Magnum, (yeah...). I didn't own a copy of Nero 7 or UltraISO, so I experimented with the truly "FREE" tools (available for download by anyone, with no cracks required...) I used UltraISO trial version to expand the ISO, (I had tried PowerArchiver, but it only uncompressed about 3.5 GB, and thought it was done, so be careful and check the size of the un-compressed files before you make DVD-DL Coaster. Since the trial version of UltraISO won't make an ISO bigger than 300MB, I used folder2iso to make the new ISO, (another freeware tool). Available at www.trustfm.net/divx/SoftwareFolder2Iso.html To burn it, I relied on DVD Decrypter, which has been faithfully been making me NAV backups for the last 4 versions of DVD. DVD Decrypter can be put in "write" mode, and most importantly, you can/must go under the Tools->Drive->Change Book Type, and change the "Book Type" to DVD-ROM from DVD-R, (The book type is reported by the media when inserted into a drive, and the REC unit checks to make sure the media is not a recordable one, but making this change BEFORE you burn the media solves this problem). I have had problems with the TDK DVD-R DL media, where I get DVD Read errors on the NAV unit, so I tried (about a month ago) switching to Memorex media and I have not had this problem since. I'll keep you posted after running the hacked version for a month or so, but so far, I'm loving it... Kudos and thanks to those who researched, experimented and had the drive to make this happen. Much appreciated.
