the REC unit wil NOT read Memorex, Sony, or HP discs..

Verbatim and RiData seem to be the only ones that works correctly 99% of the time...

For the guy searching for the Torrent: can hunt it down on google using *********AE search term.

Guys,

Any chance of a few more seeds out there? Incomplete torrent at the moment.

Thanks!

I am having a problem getting this hack to work.

I did everything mentioned in the post.. copied AE NAV disk, ran patch program and copied patch to the other folder, burned the disk to a DL Verbatim disk...etc etc etc

I put the disk in, and it did not ask to be updated.  However, it functioned as it normally does... it could look up the NAV database, and worked as a backup copy of my NAV DVD no problem.  However, it never tried to do the update.

What could I be doing wrong here???

Its a 2007 300C SRT8 with the REC navi (i believe)

Thanks, Kris

The problem is that the newest Nav units come pre-loaded with a version of the Nav software that is newer than what is on the DVD.  The unit decides whether to load the code based on version number, and the new version is "higher" than what is on the hack.

The simple fix is to increment the version number of the hacked code so it is higher than the one pre-loaded in the Nav.  Mr. Incredible has done this, and reports that it will then load and run with no problems.  (See this thread.)  The only thing you're giving up is whatever enhancements DCX or Alpine may have made that the rest of us don't have yet.

If you're comfortable using a hex editor we can tell you exactly which byte on the disc you have to modify to get the hack to load.  (I like 010 for a hex editor.)  Alternately, Mr. Incredible could probably send you a patch for the file if you want to go forward.

Can you tell us the exact bytes to edit in a hex editor?  I actually see to areas where it refers to version number.

thanks,

Can you tell us the exact bytes to edit in a hex editor?  I actually see to areas where it refers to version number.

In the AE version, the version ID is at address 52:1CB4h in MAIN.APN (in the ZH2* directories).  Please be aware that if you're using a hex editor, the version numbers look like they're backwards.  So 2.04.01 looks like "01 04 02 00" in the hex editor.  On Mr. I's new unit, the version from the factory was 2.05.10, so he had to update it to "11 05 02 00" in the hex.

Also, see this thread for more discussion on applying to the newer 2007 REC units.  Be aware that you'll actually be "downgrading" the program.  We haven't figured out what's different on the 2.05.10 version vs. the 2.04.00 AE version yet, but nothing obvious so far.

You may want to pull up the version number on your unit first, just to make sure it's the same 2.05.10 Mr.I had.  It's under one of the Nav menus, I forget which.

Sweet.. thanks for your help!  I got it to work..  I just hex edited the file to v 2.05.11 or something, reburned, and it works fine.

I just wonder what the new update had that I overwrote... ??

Oh well, works awesome.. thanks!

My version number is 1.44.00 or 00 44 01.  This number appears in about 3 different locations in the file none corresponding with the hex location you specified.  Should I downgrade the version number in all 3 locations?

I'm not sure what file you're looking at Stevo, but that's not the right one.  The version number appears exactly once in the file, and at the location I mentioned.  If you change that 1.44.00 stuff and try loading that version you've got a pretty good chance of doing something bad to the unit.

You're either looking at an earlier version than what's on the AE disc, or you're looking at the wrong file.  It's the MAIN.APN file that's in the ZH200 and ZH2FF directories.
